What happened to Mathews?

I only caught the last bit of the KC-SD game last night, without any sound. Was Mathews injured? I didn't see him play at all in the last half of the 4th quarter. I assume Brinkley was filling in for Tolbert, but haven't been able to find anything on Mathews. None of the game summaries I've found mention a thing about why he wasn't playing, though in the run up to the game there was lots of talk about Mathews playing sole back with Tolbert out. Did Norv just go with Brinkley as the hot hand? Was Mathews unavailable?

Groin injury for Mathews. Also, Brinkley was treated for a concussion following the game. Hopefully Tolbert is active next week.
