Help with Keeper League rules / format

Postby rmsanger » Fri Dec 02, 2011 10:46 am

Hey, I need some quick input for our league's commish... We have a 10 team snake draft formatted leauge with std scoring with exception of IDP and .5 PPR. This is a work league that has been going on for 5+ years for which this is my first year.

We proposed adding a twist this year and turning it into a keeper league as the owners are now very stable & committed. The initial thought was to give up the draft pick for which round your player was picked in. Two questions have now come up:

1) How do we handle undrafted / waiver pickups?
2) How about players that were traded for?

You lose a last-round pick for keeping one of these guys, and then a second-to-last and so on if you have more than one.

This shouldn't change anything - use the original-draft-round criteria just like you would for everyone else.

Hope this helps ;-D

First off thanks for the help!

For your second comments, lets play a hypothetical:

Team A: Drafted Larry Fitz in 4th round for '11
Team B: Drafted Steve Smith in 12th round for '11

During year Team A & B trade each straight up... For '12 Team A wants to keep Steve Smith, would they give up a 4th or a 12th to keep him given the stated goal of this keeper format?

Team A keeps Smith for his 12th-rounder, since that's where he was taken in the first place. This trade might not happen considering the disparate values and similar production, but if it did, the owners would need to factor the draft slot of all players involved in this way. When doing trades in keeper leagues like this, it's only important where the player was taken, not who selected him IMO. Owners can then work trading of certain picks/players to even out deals like this that might be close but lacking that little something to seal it - hope this helps ;-D
