Our league is considering adding a 3rd starting wr spot this year due to how deep the position has become compared to rb's. Im sure alot of you do this already. We have had 2 rb, 2wr, 1te and 1 flex. Also thinking of adding the te to the flex spot as its getting deep too. Just wanted to hear some thoughts from those of you that use 1 or both of these rules already....thanks
My league uses the following 1 QB 2 RB 3 WR 1 TE 1 K 1 Def 1 Head Coach
I feel without a flex position it creates more pressure to fill your positions, and creates more trading within the league. It's nice to have a flex position, but it creates more of a challenge to have a stronger restriction.
It sounds silly, but it actually decides more games than you'd think.
The head coach wins you 3 its if his team wins, or -3 if they lose. So if I started Andy Reid, I'd be an eagles fan for the day, because he could either win me 3 its, or lose me 3, which is awful in a close game in the play-offs
I prefer the most flexible roster settings as possible. Yes the FLEX position reduces the pressure to carry a set number of RB, WR, etc, but I think it also opens up more weekly decisions who to start. I'd much rather have to decide on who is the best start each week, regardless of position, than be stuck with having to start a player regardless because that's the only player at a position available. My preferred roster is
Thanks for the input guys. We have always had 16 rounds for 12 teams. Waiver wire was really thin last year, so going to 18 rounds was out of the question. We decided adding an IDP was the best way to add something new and make the ww deeper.
I've brainstormed a little about the head coach position too. Although I've never seen this in a league, the scoring categories I've thought of to capture good/bad coaching were:
Win (outright): 7 points Win (vs. spread): 4 points Loss (outright): -3 points Loss (vs. spread): -2 points Turnover Margin: 1 point/TO Penalty yards margin: 1 point/10 yards 4th down conversion: 1 point, plus 1 pt/10 yards gained and 4 points for a TD Turnover on downs: -.5 points 2 point conversion: 1 point 2 point conversion failed: -1 point Timeout used, > 10 minutes remaining in half: -1 point
I can't imagine a website supporting all of this in the near future though.

A thin WW isn't always a bad thing - if you're in with a good group of owners it really encourages trading.
