Jacquizz Rodgers

Postby Mookie4ever » Fri May 18, 2012 10:40 am

What is the Cafe's opinion of this guy?
Picked him up in a dynasty last year and don't know what to expect going forward.
Pat Yaskinsas of ESPN predicts that Jacquizz will be the breakout player of his division for 2012. While most others just think of him as a handcuff for Turner.

I kind of view him more of a change of pace, 3rd down back. My gut is if Turner goes down, he would share carries.

Rotoworld response to Yasinskas' comments:
Yasinskas sensed "genuine excitement" in coach Mike Smith's tone during a recent discussion about Rodgers. While Rodgers is undoubtedly headed for a bigger role with Michael Turner in decline, we have many reservations about recommending him as a more than a late-round fantasy pick. At 5-foot-6, 196, Rodgers will never be more than a role player. And he lacks both the dynamic playmaking ability and situation of a Maurice Jones-Drew or Darren Sproles. Mar 27 - 10:08 PM

I'm not as crazy about him as the guy from ESPN but the rotoworld assessment is a little harsh. Never more than a role player? How can they say that at this stage?

Expectations for this guy are all over the map.

Yeah, I don't know what to expect from him - don't think his numbers will improve that much this season - people wanna keep writing Turner off because he turned 30 this year but they forget he's only been a starter for 5 years after riding the pine for much of his 4 years in San Diego.

I don't think it's a talent thing, I just think some people (me included) don't trust RB's as small as he is earning consistent carries.

Outside of a Turner injury, I think best case is some better stats in the receiving area

Coach Mike Smith said he believes Jacquizz Rodgers "has the skill set to play on all three downs."
ESPN's Pat Yaskinsas is almost certain the Falcons have big plans for Rodgers. "Jacquizz is not little," Smith said. "He's short, but he's thick." The coach went on to rave about Rodgers' pass-protection abilities. With Michael Turner's workload set to be scaled back, there's plenty of PPR flier appeal here. Yaskinsas says the Falcons want Rodgers to be "more like what Warrick Dunn once was."
