Help me pick an IDP Keeper

Postby Jason497 » Fri Jun 08, 2012 11:35 pm

So this is a 20 team 0.5PPR League. 1/10, return yards are 1/15. 1/25 passing, 4 pts pass TD/6 pts every other TD.

Starts 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB/WR, 1 K, 3 DL, 3 LB, 3 DB, 7 BENCH and 2 IR

IDP scoring is

1 pt solo tackle
0.5 asst tackle
3 for a sack
3 for an INT
1.5 for force fumble
1.5 for recovered fumble
2 for a safety
6 for TD
1.5 for pass defensed
3 for blocked kick
1 for tackle for a loss
1/15 turnover return yardage

We keep 4 offensive players and 4 IDP players. Kickers are included in the IDP category this year, an interesting new twist to the rules this year.

I already know my O keepers are

QB Phillip Rivers
TE Rob Gronkowski
RB Lesean Mccoy
WR Percy Harvin

For trade bait/injury insurance I also own Stevie Johnson and Carson Palmer, and I own Dion Lewis incase something catastrophic happened to Lesean Mccoy.

My D keepers

LB Navarro Bowman
LB Demarcus Ware
CB Jason Mccourty
???

Choices
K Dan Bailey (Had 142 FP in 2011, kickers get -3 for a miss so having an accurate guy is a plus, 6th ranked K in 2011 as a rook)
DL Osi Umenyiora (Had 60 FP in 9 games, projects to 106.67 FP over 16 and had 3 sacks in postseason)
DL Jeremy Mincey (94.83 FP in 2011)
LB Takeo Spikes (103.5 FP in 2011)

I like Osi here because in 2013 he should be starting somewhere and even as a backup averaged 1 sack a game. I think he has the highest ceiling of the D choices, Mincey had 5 sacks vs. Indy and didn't do much the rest of the way and Spikes is old and would be the weakest scoring LB kept.

I'm strongly considering keeping Dan Bailey at this point. Not many are gonna keep a K I'm sure but atleast I know he won't be a bust and gives me a top 10 option at his position that scores more than DL.

Not a big IDP guy, but Osi is playing 2012 to get paid in 2013... I think he has a big year.

I would keep Osi as well. He is behind JPP and Tuck but he still should put up mid-range DL2 numbers. good luck ;-D

The idea of keeping a kicker makes my stomach turn. However, in this format and with 20 teams, I think Bailey brings more value than Osi. The difference between kickers when 20 are rostered is much greater than in standard leagues. I will now rinse the vomit out of my mouth.

Go with Osi. Sure he only sees 20 snaps a game but that just means he is fresh every snap he does play. He should see alot of one on one with Tuck and JPP along side him just hope he stays healthy.
I drink because of the 1998 NFC championship game.

Just felt the need to revisit this...

Antonio Cromartie was on my team and I hadn't really given him much consideration. Since return yards are 1/15 he scored 106 a year ago. Now it's being reported that he is going to be used on offense, he went so far as to proclaim himself the Jets 2nd best WR today on ESPN First take.

There was talk in March of moving him to safety but I guess that died down when they signed Laron Landry. He was already the backup KR behind Joe Mcknight.

He was the 35th DB last year and it's a 20 team league, so he was still a DB2.

If you dont need to have your keepers picked for a while I would just keep an eye on that situation before making a rushed decision. If they have to be in soon I would stick with Osi if it were my team.
