Keeper Help. 5 to pick!!!

Postby jackarmani » Mon Jun 18, 2012 5:45 pm

I'm in a standard scoring (non-ppr) but with IDP play 1QB/2RB/2WR/1TE/1flex/1k/1DL/1LB/1DB/1Dflex a week.

I need to keep 5 players and with 12 teams in the league this should mean the top 60 players are gone from the draft.

My current squad is:

QB: Tony Romo/Ryan Fitzpatrick
RB: Ryan Matthews/Jamaal Charles/Frank Gore/Reggie Bush/Felix Jones
WR: Calvin Johnson/Victor Cruz/Percy Harvin/Stevie Johnson/Michael Crabtree
TE: Vernon Davis
DL: Calais Campbell
LB: Jerod Mayo/London Fletcher/Von Miller
DB: Jason McCourty/Patrick Cheung

In my eyes I have 9 potential keepers:

Romo - should be a lock
Calvin Johnson - Is a lock
Ryan Matthews - true healthy back
Jamaal Charles - ACL tear makes him a ??? but that will be nearly a year ago when season opens
Frank Gore - slowed as the season went on and getting old now, but still a top threat on any day
Reggie Bush - showed he can handle the carries as an every down back
Victor Cruz - exploded onto scene but will he do it again?
Percy Harvin - if utilised correctly could score big especially with peterson out
Vernon Davis - could probably pick up a more reliable TE in draft

So what does everyone think?

I think your 4 locks to be keepers are:

Mathews
Charles
Calvin
Cruz

I would probably go with Gore as my last keeper, and see if I could trade him while he still has value to go along with the name recognition.

100% agree here, but I think I would keep Harvin over Gore. Harvin has a much higher probability of improving, Gore can only go down. There will be 2-3 QB's thrown back in Romo's tier, I don't see him as sure fire keeper at all.

This. Doubtful you find a QB better than Romo tossed back into the mix....and i really dont like the situtaion in SF, let Gore go unless you think you can package him/romo for an upgrade at QB.

Calvin Johnson
Victor Cruz
Ryan Mathews
Jamaal Charles
Percy Harvin

I prefer Harvin to Romo because I think he provides better value than Romo. I think you could find a QB in Romo's tier in the draft but will not find a top 20 WR in the draft.

Ya I agree, and if Harvin doesn't hold out he should put up some big numbers. The QB position is pretty deep, and frankly I've just never been a fan of keeping QBs unless they're elite.

Megatron
Mathews
Charles
Cruz
Harvin

This group of 5 sets you up nice for top 10 talent in WR and RB, and I agree with the others, you'll be able to replace Romo, if anything the ability to draft him again.
