First time playing with a prize(s), any suggestions?

Postby demonTD » Fri Jul 06, 2012 3:15 pm

I have a league of 12 teams. To keep people interested throughout the year, we agreed on putting in $20 each, making a $240 pot. I thought about having various prizes, wanted to get some peoples ideas here.

1st place in league - $100
2nd place in league - $80
Highest scoring week - $20
Highest scoring player - $20

Here are some ideas..

1st Place $120
2nd Place $60

Position Payouts (most points per position at the end of the regular season) - This is always a hit in every league.
Best QB - $10
Best RB - $10
Best WR - $10
Best TE - $10
Best K - $10
Best D/ST - $10

Total $240

Some other payouts we have...
Most points against for the season
Super Bowl MVP - This goes to the team that has the actual Super Bowl MVP on their roster. If it's a defensive player it goes to D/ST
Toilet Bowl Game

I'm not in any money leagues, so take this with a grain of salt. But generally speaking, any extra payouts that keep people interested throughout the season, regardless of their current record, is a good thing. Extra payouts keep people motivated, even in the face of a hopeless season. We had a number of trophies in our free league that could be potential payout options:

Most Points in a Week
Most Points by a Player (could be broken down by position)
Best Season Record
Most Total Points at end of regular season
Biggest Win margin in a week
Closet Win (smallest margin) in a week

Then we have a bunch of loser trophies for all the opposite events above, but that probably doesn't apply for a money league.

my league has payout for superbowl winner and loser, highest total points for the season, regular season winner, and a weekly payout of $10 for highest score of the week. Keeps in interesting since everyone has something to play for each week. Also i hate when some mediocre team gets hot the last 3 weeks and walks away with all the money.... Im looking at you NY Giants...

ps: we also do a perpetual trophy that gets passed around by superbowl winners, winners get their name engraved each year. Its good for bragging rights. Teams that dont make playoffs are ressonsible for paying for the food/beverages at the following year's draft.
