Keeper: McFadden or Cruz?

Postby lateralus1123 » Thu Jul 12, 2012 12:12 am

This only my second season so this is the first time I've had keeper possibilities.

14 team league
16 player roster, 8 starters, 1xQB, 1xK, 1xDEF, 2xRB, 3xWR/TE
Standard scoring (not PPR)

To keep Cruz I give up my 13th round pick. To keep McFadden I give up my 10th. I can only keep one.
A team offered me the first pick in round 7 for McFadden but I've not had an offer for Cruz.

I am thinking McFadden is more likely to score more points, but with his injury history and having been offered a pick for him, I'm leaning towards keeping Cruz. Also Cruz could potentially be my "franchise" player as he will only cost 11th next year, 9th the year after, etc...so if he remains a solid receiver I will have him cheap for years to come.

Rosters have to be reduced to one player by Friday so if you guys could offer some quick advice I'd really appreciate it!

I'd keep McFadden for a 10th. Yes, he is injury prone but just grab his handcuff late.
I drink because of the 1998 NFC championship game.

I agree with Stevooo...the hard part is figuring out which guy is going to be his handcuff, Mike Goodson/Taiwan Jones/Cedric Benson if they sign him...

Mcfadden when he is healthy is a top 4 back right there with Foster, Mccoy, and Rice. I'm willing to gamble on him 1 more season.

Run with DMC :-b

See if you can trade Cruz, someone's got to want him

Wow unanimous for RunDMC so far...was I crazy for thinking Cruz?

Eli's emergence, Nicks out for a couple games, Manningham gone, and Cruz's reported work ethic made me think he would be a top 5 WR.

If I try to deal Cruz, how high of a pick should I ask for?

The reason it's such a concensus DMC is because when he's healthy, he's a top 5 fantasy back, and RB is a much thinner position than WR

So say you're me and you're going to stay in the league for years to come. RBs have a short shelf-life whereas WRs can play many years in their prime. If I hold on to Cruz at 13, and he stays a top 5 receiver, I will have him on the cheap for the next 4 years. DMC I could have cheap for the next 3, but who knows what kind of injuries he'll have racked up by then. This is why it's so tough.

But you guys are probably right, I have a RB who's proven he can score and has the lone duties on his team and that's hard to come by.

WR's absolutely have a longer shelf life, but an every down elite back in the 10th is incredible value. He will probably miss 2-4 games, but he is still the guy to keep
