OXNARD, Calif. — Morris Claiborne was disappointed — even angry — after spraining the MCL in his left knee. But he was also relieved that the injury, which occurred Wednesday, wasn’t more serious. Claiborne, who recalled that “he couldn’t hardly walk when I woke up the next day,” said Saturday he expects to be sidelined for “about a week or so.”

“I know it’s something I can come back from,” said Claiborne.

But Claiborne, who was drafted sixth overall in April, acknowledges it’s yet another setback as he attempts to prove he’s worthy of starting at cornerback. Claiborne had previously missed the entire off-season program as he recovered from surgery on his left wrist.

“Obviously, you’d like him out there getting reps,” said secondary coach Jerome Henderson. “And when he’s not there he’s missing time. Obviously you’d like to have them out there. But this is the NFL and this happens.”

The Cowboys are hopeful that Claiborne’s development won’t be delayed because “Morris is a smart football player,” head coach Jason Garrett said.

“He understands things intellectually and he’s able to carry things from the meeting room to the field,” Garrett added. “He’s going to stay engaged.”

Claiborne is going to be a stud in IDP, escpecially if he will be returning punts... I have Patrick Peterson, Webbie and Claiborne as 3 of my 4 dynasty DBs (we get nice PR/KR yardage bonus). Hopefully he can stay healthy and Im glad it wasnt a tear.
I drink because of the 1998 NFC championship game.
