Pretty simple, who has the better long term potential and highest upside, Andrew Luck or RGIII? I don't need either to start for the next year or two, but looking for the next ten years or so after that. Ten team dynasty league, 6pts all tds, start 1 QB. So who would you rather have and why? Thanks, WHIR.
I think the sky is the limit for both guys, but for the long term I still lean towards Luck. I think the RGIII hype machine is running at a few too many RPMs at this point, and while it could be right on, I think his running ability and total package are a bit overrated and Luck is somehow flying under the radar a bit. In the next 10 years, if both become elite in a vacuum, I wouldn't be surprised if RGIII had 2-3 elite seasons where he goes crazy somewhat like Vick two years ago, but I could see Luck beating him the other 7 and being more consistently dominant along the way. Like both guys, and Luck more in real life for sure, but I think for fantasy I'd (barely) lean that way as well.
A) Long-term and safer value lies with Luck. If you want the QB that stands the better chance at being in the league in 10 years, then it's him. I trust the Colts front office more than I trust the Redskins, when it comes to patience and development. Nothing about Snyder says "stability", and when it comes to QBs, once the Redskins cut bait on Griffin in 3 years, for whatever reason, there is no telling where he lands. I'd claim to trust Shanahan, when it comes to Qbs, but Snyder just needs to sneeze once to despise and fire Shanahan for not saying "God bless you".
B) Vince Young, Vick, McNabb, Culpepper: running quarterbacks who ran into injuries, and inconsistent play because of it. If Griffin is expected to be a runner, then he's set up to have a few monster seasons, and a lot of what-might-have-been type of years.
For me it is Luck and it's not even close. 2012 is the only year I see RGIII having a chance of having more value. His style of play is going to get him dinged up and he's got a small frame.
