My league is starting individual defensive players this season for the first time. It's a flex position for lineman, linebackers and defensive backs.
Tackle 1
Asst Tackle 0.5
Sack 3
Def INT; 6
FF: 4
Fumble Recovery: 2
Tackle for loss: 2
I've never started IDPs and am hoping for a little help/suggestions.
1) Is it best to choose a lineman, linebacker or defensive back or are they intermingled?
2) Do we draft them about the same time as tight ends and defense or more like kickers or more like WR or QBs? Where would the top IDP rank in the overall draft?
3) We still start a team defense each week as well. Do I avoid a team that I have chosen the IDP in?
4) Any other suggestions?
Any help is greatly appreciated

So you only start 1 defensive player?
Treat it like a kicker then, take them at the end. Middle Linebackers typically score the most points and are most consistant because they get the most tackles.
an IDP's success and Team DEF success is totally unrelated, don't worry about it. The only concern is managing byes.
