Keep Rice and Stafford or just Rice?

Postby chiswede » Mon Aug 20, 2012 3:55 pm

I'm in a huge 14 team Yahoo league so there's not a lot to go around. Is it worth just keeping Stafford in addition to Rice, or should I let him go and see if I can get him later? I've listed my entire roster below, but Rice and Stafford are the only 2 worth considering.

14 team keeper league
Start: 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 1K, 1D
Scoring:
10yds rushing/receiving-1pt
Rushing/receiving TD-6pts
Passing TD-4pts
Interception- -1pt
Fumble- -2pts
.25 points per reception
Default Yahoo scoring for kicking and defense

Lineup:

QB Matthew Stafford
WR Brandon Marshall
WR Marques Colston
WR DeSean Jackson
RB Beanie Wells
RB Ray Rice
TE Kellen Winslow
K Nick Folk
D Detroit
BN Philip Rivers (QB)
BN James Jones (WR)
BN Toby Gerhart (RB)
BN Josh Cribbs (WR)
BN Jacoby Jones (WR)

Is there a penalty if you do keep Stafford with Rice? If so, what is it. I don't see why not keep both of them. Both are top 4 at their respective positions.

Ok, I am assuming that you lose a round to draft in for each player you keep, so 1st keeper costs 1st round, and a 2nd keeper costs you a 2nd round pick. Under that assumption, I think you keep Stafford and Rice, and begin your draft in the 3rd round. 14 teams dilutes the player pool a LOT, and starting your draft with a top-3 RB and top-5 QB puts you in a great place.

No penalty, but if you only keep one guy, you get to use your other keeper pick as a second round pick.

So you'd still have your first rounder if you kept both? Want to make sure I'm understanding correctly. Would they take your first and second round picks?

Yes, the way it works is that your first keeper is your first round pick and your second keeper is your second round pick. Once the "keeper rounds" are done, everyone picks as usual.

So if I keep just Rice, my I get to pick in the second round. If I don't keep anyone, I pick in both the first and second rounds. If I keep them both, I pick for the first time in the 3rd round.

Okay I gotcha now. I would choose to keep Stafford for a second rounder. That's where he is projected to go anyways, and you can lock up a top 4 QB. He will be very good again this year.
