New to Fantasy Football and need some tips

Postby ProfileNotFound » Sun Sep 02, 2012 4:37 pm

Hello everybody I am new to the forum and fantasy football in general. I signed up to play in a family league and we did our draft today. Here is how I drafted:

1. Drew Brees QB Saints
2. Marshawn Lynch RB Seahawks
3. Gregg Jennings WR Packers
4. Antonio Gate TE Chargers
5. Darren Sproles RB Saints
6. Robert Meachem WR Chargers
7. Mark Ingram RB Saints
8. Defense/Special Teams Eagles
9. Lance Moore WR Saints
10. Matt Bryant K Falcons
11. C.J. Spiller RB Buffalo
12. Alex Smith QB 49ers
13. Sidney Rice WR Seahawks
14. Taiwan Jones RB Raiders

I admit that me being a Saints fan might have influenced my choices a tiny bit :) So my question is how did I do? Also what am I suppose to do now that the draft is over? How should I go about choose who to play and who to bench? A run down of how Fantasy Football works would be awesome b/c I kinda jumped in this with little to no knowledge.
QB: Drew Brees
RB: Marshawn Lynch
RB: Darren Sproles
WR: Greg Jennings
WR: Lance Moore
TE: Antonio Gates
W/R: C.J. Spiller
K: Matt Bryant
DEF: Eagles

Bench:
QB: Alex Smith
RB: Mark Ingram
WR: James Jones
WR: Robert Meachem
TE: Dnnis Pitta

You might want to add some depth to those WR's. IE Meachem and Moore.
Ingram has been on the mediocre side as of last season, and he shares the ball like crazy.
CJ will serve as an awesome change of pace back behind F Jax, and if (not wishing this upon anyone) F Jax goes down he will eat up carries.

You did well I think with Brees, Beast Mode, Sproles and yes even Gates.

How do I add some depth? I don't even know how I can change players, do I have to trade with other players or something?

Well, just scout some FA receivers.

You'd be surprised how many receivers break out every year. Whether it's for one season only, they come out of the woodwork's sometimes. I am not advising you do to this now, but let's just say Meachem or Moore are having a crappy season 4 games in, drop them and pick up a receiver who's averaging more points or has the ability to be high risk/high reward.

Any chance you could copy/paste some WR FA's onto here?

OR you could trade, but get advice before you trade ANYONE. I've played Fantasy with some of my best friends for years and believe me, ruthless doesn't even begin to explain...

How does signing free agents work in fantasty football. I thought I could only use the players I drafted. Can I just choose any player who wasn't drafted and switch them out with a player on my team? We used Fantasy.nfl site to do the draft. Where can I go to look at the free agent list? Also could someone explain benching players to me? I am sorry if I am posting stupid questions but I have no clue what I am doing.

I have to tell you, I have an aversion to using NFL for Fantasy. It's been a few years so I am unsure how to answer.

I can tell you with the services I use now, Yes, you can do exactly that. If you don't like a player on your team drop him and pick up one you have more faith in. I most my leagues we have acquisition (or drop) limits so be aware of that. How many players are in your league? And who is available at FA?

Denver Broncos
Jacksonville Jaguars
Tennessee Titans
Miami Dolphins
QB: Drew Brees
RB: Marshawn Lynch

So any suggestions of what changes to make? My friend told me I should drop Sidney Rice and pick up Jabar Gaffney. Is this a good move to make?
