Youngest Roster ever?

Postby bossfrog » Sun Sep 02, 2012 5:42 pm

I drafted this team in a 14 team/2 keeper league. I've never seen so many 1st and 2nd year players on a team (indicated by asterisk?) I didn't plan on this, it just kinda turned out this way. Anyone else come up with an exceedingly young roster this year? It made me think how much young talent is in the NFL right now.

Phillip Rivers
Andy Dalton*
Brandon Weeden*
Russell Wilson*

RB
Marshawn Lynch
Doug Martin*
CJ Spiller
Isaiah Pead*
Robert Turbin* (insurance for Lynch)

WR

Demaryius Thomas
Greg Little*
Randall Cobb*
Michael Floyd*

Brandon Pettigrew

I think 4 QBs is a little excessive, unless that's how most of your league panned out? Do you only start 1? If so, I'd drop Dalton and Weeden..

As for how young your roster is, it's definitely a noticeable trend in the NFL and in many fantasy drafts, but it doesn't mean it's necessarily a good one..

Players who have been producing for years at certain positions are being overlooked for "breakout talent", but there are many question marks and it's a very up-in-the air way to go about things..and I've fallen victim to this as well, so I'm not trying to be a hypocrite here

people are taking AJ Green and Julio before players like Larry Fitz, Andre Johnson - I have done this too but it's admittedly risky and stupid considering they have only played 1 year, albeit great years

people are also taking players like Doug Martin and DeMarco Murray over players who have produced year and year out (i.e, Michael Turner, Adrian Peterson)

What I'm getting at is that the NFL is a rough league, and unproven talent is a risky play when there are no sure things compared to already established players..then again, you're in a keeper league, so it's all about the future - unless you wanna win this year (not saying your team can't, just saying there's a lot of ?s)

Yeah, I'm not one to over-value rookies, but you have to understand... there were 28 keepers. Andre Johnson, Fitzgerald, most of the good vets were kept (mine were Hernandez and Rivers). I did draft Doug Martin in the first round, but you have to consider than I picked 9th out of 14 and 16 RBs were claimed before him.

As for picking 4 QBs, for my last two rounds out of 16, I like to pick a couple of young boom or bust guys as potential trade bait if they pan out. That's how I ended up with Weeden and Michael Floyd. I'm curious as to why you'd keep Wilson over Dalton though. Dalton has proven he can play with a very solid rookie season. Wilson is a high potential guy who hasn't done anything outside of practice (that's what preseason games are) coming out of a school that wins on the ground.

Looks like a good team to me, you're right it is very young but that could either pay off big for you or kinda backfire for this season. If Weeden and Wilson both start off hot I would attempt to trade them right away.
