Browns coach Pat Shurmur gave rookie QB Brandon Weeden a vote of confidence at Monday's press conference.
"Brandon Weeden is our starter and he's going to get better," Shurmur said. Weeden had an almost inconceivably bad debut, with his 5.1 QB rating being 10 times worse than Michael Vick's 51.0 mark even though Vick (also) threw four interceptions. Neither Jimmy Clausen nor Blaine Gabbert ever approached a rating so awful during their calamitous rookie campaigns. Weeden's 5.1 QB rating was 7.2 points worse than Robert Griffin III's yards per attempt. Weeden wasn't going to lose his job after one bad start, but the pressure is certainly on.
