Backup QB Question

Postby ampant » Wed Sep 19, 2012 10:38 am

My starter is Matt Ryan. I had Bradford as a backup, but dropped him at 1am after week 1 when I was tired, in lieu of Gabbert.

Its a no-brainer that Bradford is the more polished QB, but I did it anticipating Ryan's bye week.

Week 7 Gabbert is @ OAK, who have looked horrible
Bradford is at home vs GB, a much better defensife team.

If something happens to Ryan, I would much rather have Bradford as my backup, but looking just at the week when I know Ryan won't be available, Gabbert has the much better matchup. Should I drop Gabbert and pick Bradford back up?

I would pick up Bradford. You have him as insurance. You are right he is the better QB. Much better. I think the Packers Defense is a little overrated he should still have a solid showing and the Oakland defense is a little underrated. Gabbert has been struggling and he is banged up, who knows if he can hold the starter job much longer.

Thanks for the help with mine.

Agree with above. I get what you're saying re: bye week match-ups, but that's not necessarily how I think you should evaluate a backup QB. Don't think "who has a better match-up during the ONE week my #1 is on his bye?"; think "who would I rather have for the rest of the SEASON if my #1 goes down?" Take the better football player, which in this case is definitely Bradford.

Thanks for helping with mine.
