the owner wanted "his" guy. he inherited Reeves. Now that Vick is back, the team has a chance to go on a mini winning streak to end the season, and firing Reeves after a winning streak wouldn't be as justified, so he went ahead and axed him now.

That would be the dumbest move ever to hire Deion. With Vick in there you have a chance to be a contender and Vick honestly needs good head coaching to bring him along. And Deion is far from a coach.
I think the Falcons are making a mistake with this one but I just hope the Giants make a run at Reeves in the off-season along with Jimmy Johnson. One of them should suffice

I understand from reading the article on YAHOO that they wanted him to finish the season but he elected to go now?! I feel badly for him!!

If I'm "old school", Dan Reeves must be a scribe to the Pharoh.
Atlanta is exactly the sort of team that needs to get young, get new, with a fresh approach built around Michael Vick.
Dan Reeves is not the guy to do that.
My 2 cents, anyway.

... don't expect to hire a new coach until after the regular season. Among the possible candidates: former Minnesota coach Dennis Green and college coaches Bob Stoops of Oklahoma, Nick Saban of LSU, and Kirk Ferentz of Iowa.
Stoops, if you believe him, stated just last week that he has no interest in an NFL position. Apparently taking a hint from a certain ex-University of Florida head coach. Dennis Green (though not my choice) is interesting. I wouldn't be surprised to see ex-Jag Tom Coughlin interviewing. Or soon-to-be ex-NYG Jim Fassel.
My prediction, though?
Deion Sanders, Michael Irvin and Keyshawn Johnson tag-team coach the Falcons next year. When things get tight in the 4th-quarter, they come in for one play in a 3 wide receiver set.
Vick hits Irvin in the corner of the end zone. TD!
Hey. It could work.
