Viks D now that Grossman is starting?

Postby Paladyr » Wed Dec 10, 2003 1:21 pm

I'm posting this here because I want to discuss "rules" people have about who to start on any given sunday. You often hear "never start a rookie QB in their debut" or "always start your studs", but what about starting the opposing DEF of a team that is already poor, and now is starting a rookie QB. Is it just as poor an idea to COUNT on the rookie doing bad as it is to start the rookie QB?

I like Grossman a lot but sure it would be a good weak to play any of the D's in this game.

Take the weather into the equation. Looks like snow and high winds. Either D could have a good game. I would actually take Chicago's D over Minasotta this week though.

Would you rather have the New Orleans Defense or that of Minnesota?

Keep in mind Chicago is home - that's always a factor in Minnesota's play...

I just don't see Grossman performing better than mediocre in this game...this will be his first NFL snap (I assume), and even the Vikings D should post good stats.

New Orleans. Collins, Shockey, and Hillard are out. Toomer and Barber have underachieved, their O-line has sucked all year, and they're on the road. I will be surprised if NY scores more than 14 points.

i would not play NO. Their D just isn't strong enough to score big points against teams they SHOULD score big points against. Twice they had atlanta and didn't do squat.

In either case the Giants or DeCubs should try to protect their QBs by running the ball. A-Train plays very well at home and doesn't fumble as much as Tiki (who does). The Saints may be a good play this week. They should score a lot and help TB to 14 points so...The Vikes are so schitzophrenic that it's hard to say how well they'll play.

it is one of those things that could go either way i would be more inclined to start a nother defense because MN ALWAYS plays bad in the cold and our d is always bad regardless of where we play
Moss IS the best WR in the game...

I used this strategy last week w/ Jacksonville and I'm using it this week with Minny.

Chicago is near the bottom of the league in sacks allowed and INT's, and I don't see how Grossman makes them better in those areas. Plus, Minny leads the league in picks and have returned a few for TD's. PLUS, they've played very well in the last month; check the stats.
