Bench Cam for Ponder?

I know, I know...silly question. There is no way I can bring myself to actually sit him, but I am very curious what people's thoughts are on this subject: is Christian Ponder a better play this week than Cam Newton?

I understand why you would at least give it some thought. Cam's matchup is tough this week I think. However, at the end of the day, Ponder isn't really in the same league, and I think he has trouble with Detroit's pass rush. I would stick with Cam.

Yikes, how about option 3, waiver wire? I would give Cam a couple more games to see if Ponder plays consistently.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. I am most certainly playing Cam, and I am still very happy to have him as my QB. Everybody has a bad game on occasion, and even in his bad week he still got me 15 points. I do think Ponder has looked very good though, and getting Jerome Simpson back should only help. After seeing what Locker did to the Lions last week, and how good Ponder did against the 49ers, I just can't help but to wonder.

I'm a Vikes fan (full disclosure) but I think you may actually be able to make a case for Ponder. I think even with that pass rush, Ponder will be able to find Percy, Rudolph, and now (finally) have a legitimate deep ball threat in Jerome Simpson. Prior to his return, Michael Jenkins was the deep ball "threat." And while Ponder was able to put the ball on him, he is just not that kind of guy. Honestly, I would go Ponder here, and it's only in part a homer pick.
