Analyze this Trade - is it fair? Should it be Veto'd

Postby pojax » Fri Sep 28, 2012 3:53 pm

Ok so we are figuring out if this trade should be Veto's by the league.
There was a trade between Ryan Williams for next years 3rd and 7th draft pic.

This is a PPR league.

Ryan Williams (Ari - RB)
Round 14
Round 15

Trade
Round 3
Round 7

Guys selected in the 3rd round this year:

Trent Richardson
The Mannings
Demarco Murray
Jamal Charles
Brandon Marshall
Greg Jennings
AJ Green
MJD
Hakeem Nicks
Ryan Matthews
Fred Jackson

Now honestly ask yourself, which one of those guys is worth Ryan Williams

Is this trade at all fair?

Please leave any comments..

Its not fair in terms of value, but when vetoing a trade my line of thought is you only do it if you think there is collusion going on. Is it a situation where the guy giving up the picks is desperate for a RB and is figuring he needs to beef up his team now and worry about next year when next year comes? Is this a keeper league where he could then keep him in a late round last year and he thinks he will exceed that value by enough to take that risk?? On paper it looks like an extremely lopsided trade but there could be a reason for it

This is not a keeper league..
The thought here is that the league will lose all credibility if this joker trade isn't Veto'd.. And there is a huge edge for the player who trade this guy away..
It's like trading Williams for an MJD.. it wouldn't be allowed.. so why is this.. If after a few proven games this happened then sure!

With it not being a keeper league i would definitely agree that the trade is even more lopsided. I could see doing him straight up for a 5th or 6th rounder next year if the guy was desperate for a RB, but anything more than that is ridiculous. I do disagree though that its the same as trading him for a 3rd round this year; I would say a 4th or 5th rounder this year has the same value as a future 3rd rounder.

So you think it should be Veto'd?

How can you veto a trade when you don't know what Williams is going to do? What if he runs for 150 yds this Sunday? Then you screwed that owner. Maybe he won't, but he is a huge unknown that could land at either extreme. Maybe the owner trading for him knows something you don't.

You can veto the trade because the player isn't proven.. and the value he got for him was way too high!
It's borderline silly to give e 3rd round and 7th round pick for an unproven player!
This gives the owner who got the pics a huge advantage in next years draft!

I understand what you're saying, but it's difficult to rate a player like Williams right now. I just don't like micro-managing my league, and if the owner feels he is someone worth taking a chance on (and help him win this year), then what's wrong with that? If you substituted CJ for Williams in the same trade at the beginning of the year, you would've vetoed because the team receiving CJ would have been getting a steal. But now everyone's trying to unload him for a bag of chips.
