MEGADEAL FOR MEGATRON: Pull the Trigger? WHIR Leave Link

Postby war106 » Mon Oct 08, 2012 1:44 pm

This is a .5 PPR LEAGUE, 12 team TOTAL POINTS League. I've had a rough start and am currently in 6th place.

The following trade has been proposed to me, do it or no? I'm leaning towards doing it. All three players I'm trading have not had their bye, while Megatron and Martin have.

I GIVE: Ryan Matthews, Pierre Garcon, and Torrey Smith
I GET: Calvin Johnson, Doug Martin, and Shonn Greene

Here's my team:

QBs: Russell Wilson, Drew Brees (We start 2)
WR: Demaryius Thomas, Torrey Smith, Roddy White (We start 3)
RB: Ryan Matthews and Jamaal Charles
TE: Aaron Hernadez (Currently using Chandler)
W/R Pierre Garcon
W/T Rotate bench players:

Bench:
Ryan Williams
T.Y. Hilton
Tim Tebow
Andrew Hawkins
Jahvid Best

Here are my thoughts on value:

Calvin Johnson > Torrey Smith (but it's closer than you think)
Doug Martin < Ryan Mathews
Shonn Greene < Pierre Garcon

Shonn Greene (and the Jets as a whole) has looked dreadful, and this is ultimately the dealbreaker for me. You're giving up Mathews, who has finally given us a "#1 RB" week, and I think he'll finally pay off for owners going forward. Getting two #2 RB in return will not help you. Calvin Johnson isn't really displaying that "Megatron-ness" from last season, and let's face it, he's still a WR and still prone to inconsistency and variability. And Lions look to be in a funk this year. Maybe they come out of the bye looking better, but don't count on it. Meanwhile, Torrey Smith looks to be realizing a lot of the potential he showed last season. He'll still throw up a stinker every now and then, but to me he's like the old DeSean Jackson: huge upside. I'd rather keep the the 3 guys you have then trade for Calvin Johnson and Doug Martin. Let's face it, Shonn Greene is not worth owning and will sit on your bench all year, at best. I wouldn't make the trade.

Mathews has been really solid, especially off the bench. It seems to motivate him. You are not at a total loss at WR as is. Thomas is really coming into form with manning throwing the ball. He also seems to know how to get behind the defenses they play. Megatron with no bye weeks to worry about coming up is a nice lure but not enough in my opinion to justify Smith/Mathews + Garbage for Megatron + garbage/garbage. My recommendation? Unless you find a hidden gem on the WW at RB, No deal my friend.
