Other than Brian Cushing, the only Texan who didn’t practice Thursday was defensive back Quintin Demps, who is recovering from a broken arm and thumb. Running back Ben Tate, who has a sore toe, continue to make progress and should be ready to spell Arian Foster some Sunday night, Texans coach Gary Kubiak said.
Foster carried 29 times against the Jets – gaining 152 yards for his 19th 100-yard game – and is averaging 26.4 rushes per game. That translates to more than Larry Johnson’s NFL record of 416 in 2006. Even Earl Campbell, the consummate workhorse, never carried more than 373 times in a season.
“The big load has been on Arian, but to me, we’re No. 1 in possession so our back, whoever that is, is going to carry the ball a bunch,” Kubiak said. “We’d like to spread that around, but big 23, the more he gets it, the better he gets.”
Foster has 532 yards and five touchdowns. Tate has carried 30 times for 117 yards and scored twice.
