Finally Jones says something intelligent:

Jerry Jones the owner says he would have fired Jerry Jones the G.M.

Jerry Jones AP

Several years ago, NBC’s Dan Patrick asked former Lions CEO Matt Millen whether he would have fired himself. (Millen basically said yes.)

In a new interview with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, NBC’s Bob Costas asked Jones whether Jones the owner would have fired Jones the General Manager.

“Well, I think so . . . because he was there to dismiss,” Jones said. “I’ve always worked for myself and you can’t do that. You basically have to straighten that guy out in the mirror when you work for yourself. But certainly, if I’d had the discretion, I’ve done it with coaches and certainly I would have changed a general manager.”

Jones made himself the G.M. when he bought the team in 1989. Before Al Gore invented the Internet and before sports talk radio was as prevalent as it is now, Jones was able hire Jones to be the G.M. without creating too big of a national stink. Today, it would be very hard for an owner with no credentials or experience to make himself the G.M.

And even though Jones the owner would have fired Jones the G.M. by now, Jones firing himself would have been even harder.

But of course his massive ego won't let him do it! :-t :-t

Another lost season and the fans are laying the blame firmly at Romo's feet:

Have to wonder about the focus or intelligence of Romo. Not knowing they would go for two seemed pretty odd.
The Cowboys were a beaten down team led by an ineffectual head coach and an airhead QB. Romo wasn't why they lost, though he didn't tackle Morris either.

I put just as much if not more blame on Garrett, his refusal(or inability?) to alter his gameplan to adjust for the exact same blitz on every 3rd down and how he handled the drive right before half(mismanaged drive before half last game too) is inexcusable

Romo did look uncomfortable from the very start of the game, his passes were off and he was skittish in the pocket even when he had time.It seems Parcells was dead on when he said if you don't have a coach who stays on him he will make the dumb play. I'm just hoping Jerry mortgages the farm for Manziel when he comes out now

Is that all it is? I mean, with all the times Romo finds as many enemies in the pocket as OLmen how could he not be skittish? Though not having solid play designs suited for whichever D you are lined up against can also make for an uncomfortable day. What stinks is that Romo has the skills, but he needed nuturing.

Not sure if that is all it is but can't help but think if Sean Peyton had got Romo like he wanted to before Brees that under his guidance & playcalling he would already have at least 1 ring, I just hope it's not too late for him as he definitely gets no help from the red headed "genius" as he calls plays like he has the oline of the 90s Cowboys refusing to adjust his gameplan at all.

Cowboys fire defensive coordinator Rob Ryan: 'I have no sour grapes'
DAVID MOORE Staff writer
Published: 08 January 2013 06:45 PM

Rob Ryan has been released as the Cowboys defensive coordinator.

“I have no sour grapes,’’ Ryan said. “I know I did a hell of a job. I will find another spot.’’

Ryan is the second coach to be let go in the past 24 hours. Running backs coach Skip Peete was informed on Monday he would no longer be a part of the Cowboys staff.

Ryan was two years into the job and has one year left on his contract. He was in Turks & Caicos with his wife, Kristin, and had just returned from dinner Tuesday evening when he received a call from head coach Jason Garrett.

“It didn’t last long,’’ Ryan said of the call.

“They want uncomfortable. I’m comfortably numb.

Quote of the day:
You already knew that Jerry wasn’t going to fire himself and hire, say, Mike Holmgren to run the day-to-day duties. He’s constitutionally incapable. In some cultures, it’s called “dictator-for-life.”

Cowboys interviewing Monte Kiffin, 72, as target to replace Rob Ryan
David Moore
David Moore The Dallas Morning News Staff Writer
Published: 10 January 2013 02:56 PM

Monte Kiffin, the architect of one of the more recognized defenses in the NFL, is in Dallas to interview for the Cowboys defensive coordinator’s position.

The interview takes place less than 48 hours after the club released Rob Ryan. Kiffin is the first, and at this time, only person scheduled to interview with owner Jerry Jones and head coach Jason Garrett.

The Cowboys have also had internal discussions involving Ray Horton, but it doesn’t appear the club will have the chance to speak to the Arizona defensive coordinator. Horton has generated some interest around the NFL as a head coaching candidate and the Cardinals are involved in a head coaching search of their own. It makes no sense for them to grant him permission to seek a lateral move at this time.

Kiffin presided over the Tampa Bay defense during its long run as one of the league’s best. Garrett was a backup quarterback on the Bucs in 2004 when Kiffin was the coordinator.

The 72-year-old Kiffin followed his son to USC but resigned at the end of the season and has expressed an interest to return to the NFL. His hiring would signal a switch from the 3-4 to a 4-3 defense.
