Coach: Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew to miss Green Bay game with foot injury

There was mixed injury news for the Jaguars on Monday.

Coach Mike Mularkey said quarterback Blaine Gabbert, who hurt his non-throwing shoulder against the Raiders, has a good chance to play on Sunday at Green Bay. But running back Maurice Jones-Drew, who injured his left foot on his first carry, will miss one game and maybe more.

Both players underwent MRI exams Monday, but Mularkey said he hadn’t seen the results and won’t make an announcement until Wednesday, when the Jaguars must issue an injury report.

“There is a good chance he will be able to play this week,” Mularkey said of Gabbert. “We will see how it is on Wednesday. Chad [Henne] will be prepared to go as he is every week. A lot of it will be up to Blaine to see how his shoulder feels.”

But Mularkey said of Jones-Drew, who was on crutches after he suffered the injury, “I can tell you he is out.”

The question is, for how long?

Jones-Drew ruled out for Colts game

Running back Maurice Jones-Drew missed all but the first two plays of the Oakland game and the last two games against Green Bay and Detroit. Mularkey ruled him out of the Thursday night game against the Colts.

Sidelined with a foot injury, he’s still using a cart to get around. Mularkey said Monday he doesn’t think the injury will sideline Jones-Drew for the rest of the season.

Mularkey said, “I think he is really anxious to play. I think every game that he stands on the sideline, he gets healed a little more because he wants to play and the competitor in him. ’’

Mularkey said that safety Dwight Lowery will likely be out and cornerback Rashean Mathis will probably be questionable. He said running backs Greg Jones (hip) and Montell Owens (shoulder) will probably be game-time decisions.

Any new news on MJD? Picked him up in one league hoping he can help in a week or two but now hearing he may not even come back this year? Really, I guess, why would he? Jags didn't pay him, they're not playing for a playoff spot, why risk it? I could use the roster spot but dont want to drop if he comes back in time to help. HELP!?!? :) Thoughts?

Maurice Jones-Drew (foot) told Fox Sports Radio that he hopes to return "in a couple of weeks."
Keep in mind Jones-Drew essentially said the same thing on November 8. "It’s definitely not going to be (out for) the year, but with a foot injury you don’t want to mess around with it and come back at 70 or 80 percent," Jones-Drew said. "It’s just one of those things that’s going to take a little bit of time but it’s doing much better. Hopefully I will be back in a couple of weeks." So Jones-Drew now appears to be targeting a Week 13 return. Thoroughly ineffective Rashad Jennings will continue to start in the meantime. Nov 16 - 1:21 PM

Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey confirmed that Rashad Jennings was demoted for ineffectiveness ahead of Week 11.
Jennings flopped in his big chance with Maurice Jones-Drew (foot) sidelined. In four starts, he averaged just 2.87 yards per carry and scored one touchdown. "We felt like we needed to see if we could get our run game going," Mularkey said after Sunday's overtime loss to the Texans. "We're constantly making evaluations." New starter Jalen Parmele rushed 24 times for 80 yards. Jennings doesn't figure to get his job back and Jones-Drew is due back soon anyway.
