Houston DEF for Gates and Atlanta DEF? WHIR

Postby T-Lo » Sat Nov 03, 2012 10:55 pm

Hey guys,

In my ESPN league a owner has sent me a trade request. He wants to send me TE Antonio Gates and the Falcons DEF for Houston's DEF. Houston is great, but not too far above Atlanta in ranking. In a standard league I think the point difference for the '12 season so far is something like 11 or 12 points.

My TE at the moment is Martellus Bennett and Jared Cook. Both have the potential to score but are lower lately.

I have no doubts on Gates potential production, my issue is his health. I had him in yahoo a lot for leagues, because he is one of my favorite NFL players. Him getting injured has really killed me over the years.

Is trading off my Houston DEF worth what he offers in your opinion? I spent the second overall DEF pick for them. (Just 2nd DEF, not 2nd overall, lol)

I would do this trade. I think Gates will turn it around. SD always turns things around in the last part of the season. Unless you have the Bears Defense..I wouldn't worry about other Defenses..most of the time you are playing matchups anyway.

Normally I would say yes to this type of trade where you upgrade at one position with much of a drop off at another but I say no to this one.
Reason being: ATL plays NO twice between now and playoffs so if you're fighting for seeding or to get in they could hurt you.
I say keep Houston and if Bennett or Cook can't handle it play matchups on the waiver wire. Or maybe pickup a guy like Keller off free agency if anyone hasnt already
