Rookie draft results...

Postby wtr23 » Sun May 05, 2013 11:49 pm

Here's what I ended up with after our 6 round rookie draft. I need to keep at least 4 of the 6.

1.07 RB Montee Ball (DEN) - Wisc
2.07 S Johnathan Cyprien (JAC) - FIU
3.07 TE Zach Ertz (PHI) - Stanford
4.07 RB Zac Stacy (STL) - Vanderbilt
5.07 LB Kevin Minter (ARI) - LSU
6.07 QB Zac Dysert (DEN) - Miami (OH)

My thoughts heading into the draft... I was a little thin at RB and S, had to make sure I got Stacy for insurance purposes (D-rich owner). I'm pretty strong at LB but the Daryl Washington suspension made me pull the trigger on Minter, especially that late. I like Ertz to take over after Heath Miller, but thats way down the road... I may end up trading him to a team thin at TE (start 2 with a third possible in the flex), but I'd really like to hang on to him for now. Dysert was an afterthought really as I already had 3 relatively young QBs on the roster, he's a candidate for being cut. Of these options, who would you keep?

Vets I have considered cutting or trading:
QB Alex Smith
QB Josh Freeman
RB DeAngelo Williams
WR Mohamed Sanu
WR Brian Quick
TE Delanie Walker
LB Kevin Burnett
CB Antoine Cason

I can keep all of my rookie picks if I cut 2 vets. Let me know what you think...

Unless you have extremely deep rosters, I don't see much opportunity for Dysert in the next few years... He's one cut I would make, especially if you are deep at QB.

I'm not an IDP guy, but I would cut Cason or another defensive player... In most IDP leagues, defensive scoring is not as high/important in relation to offensive scoring.

I ended up Dropping: Dysert (no need at the position currently), Quintin Mikell (32 y-o Safety, currently a FA), and DeAngelo Williams. I dropped Williams to pick up chris Ivory with the hopes that he breaks out this year now that he's higher up on the food chain.

Also, defensive scoring is about level with offensive scoring.... LBs are the defensive equivalent of RB, as lineman are to TEs. However, free agents don't do you any good until they sign with a team, so that made the choice very simple ;-D

I'd drop Dycert & Ertz [Ertz depending on your TE depth]. I'm in the Eifert club, not much faith in Ertz at the moment. We will find out over the next few years though. I think the other 4 are more likely to produce.

And I'm actually in that league btw. Picks 6 and 9 there!

Out of curiosity, why was a CB the 6th pick in the draft? How is the defensive scoring? I would think the first IDP off the board would be Arthur Brown or some other LB as CBs typically do not hold as much value and can be picked up later.

A little surprised with Geno Smith going with the first pick as well, but it could be a two qb league which could explain it, but I would expect another qb picked in that round.
