Trade Advice..

Postby wtr23 » Sat Jun 01, 2013 4:21 pm

Offered this trade the other day:

give: David Harris (LB), 2014 2nd
get: Josh Gordon, 2014 3rd

declined. Here's the counter, which I feel is a bit lopsided

give: David or Posluszny (LB), 2014 4th
get: Gordon, 2014 2nd

My team:
QB- Wilson, Smith, Freeman
RB- Foster, Gore, Murray, Ivory, D. Richardson, Ball, Stacy
WR- Marshall, D. Thomas, L. Moore, Boldin, Sanu, Quick
TE- H. Miller, Myers, Cameron, Ertz
K- Graham, Barth
S- H. Smith, D. Whitner, Cyprien
CB- C. Williams, B. Skrine, A. Cason, K. Lewis
LB- P. Posluszny, L. David, J. Freeman, Carter, D. Harris, S. Moore
DL- L. Houston, V. Wilfork, A. Rubin, B. Robison, F. Cox

His team:
QB Stafford, Manning, Ponder
RB Trich, Wilson, Miller, Vereen, DuHarris,A. Brown
WR Dez, Cruz, Roddy, Hilton, Gordon, Britt, D. Moore, Broyles
TE Cook, FDavis, Eifert
K Brown
S Branch, Chung, Quin, Swearinger
CB Talid, Bailey, Milliner, Wilson
LB Orakpo, Ayers, Mauluga, A. Brown, Te'o + imaginary GF
DL Bennett, Idonije, Tuck,Joseph, Clemons, Lotulelei

We start 3 LBs and 3-5 WR. IDP scoring is 2 pts per tackle, 1 for assists, 3 for sacks. All TDs are 6 points. Do I jump ship here or do I come back with a counter of my own? I understand the need for winning the trade but he's reaching quite a bit here IMO.

I think it's very tempting because a lot of people think Gordon might breakout this year and you'd get an extra 2nd rounder, but since you have to start 3 LB's, I don't think I'd trade David or Pos (both solid LB1's) without getting a decent LB in return...and he doesn't have any LB's that I really like. If you want to counter, I'd try to get D.Harris back in the mix. I think he's more like a LB3, so I think you can afford to lose/trade him.

I really don't have that many movable pieces here so I'm struggling to come up with a counter. I'm thinking something like

give: Harris, Boldin, 2nd
for: Gordon, 3rd

A 2 for 1 trade would put me 1 below league maximum roster size and move him 1 above. He would have to make a cut before the start of the season, which I could add to my team if I choose (if not I'll be checking the FA pool). I got Boldin as a throw in in another trade, I wouldn't mind giving him up for Gordon if he continues to improve.

two new offers:
1. Gordon, Orakpo/Mauluga, 2014 2nd for L. David
2. Hilton, 2014 3rd for David/Posluszny

I like the second offer for a couple reasons. I like David over Posluszny (younger, better situation), I've heard many say its a good idea to try to shop Posluszny this year. I feel like Gordon and Hilton are just about equal, wouldn't mind either as a 3rd or 4th receiver (which is esentially what this trade accomplishes). I feel like I have enough young talent at LB that I could comfortably take Hilton and the pick and be happy with that. Another issue I mentioned in my last post, the dreaded 2 for 1 trade. If I take both of those players, I'm going to have to drop someone. Its hard enough for me to make this move, throw that in while giving away my favorite LB of the bunch? no thanks. Any thoughts on these offers?

Yeah, I wouldn't do trade #1 because of the reasons you mentioned. I like #2 a lot better and I'd also trade Pos instead of David. Like you said, David is younger, and some people are saying "shop Pos this year" because they think he could be a victim of the salary cap in 2014 (although JAX didn't draft a LB this year). Under his current contract, his salary goes up to $7.45M from 2014-16.
