12 team dynasty startup thoughts

Postby mikemar » Fri Jul 26, 2013 8:14 am

12 teams, 30 man roster
Starting QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 2 TE, Flex
PPR, but TE's get 1.5 PPR (so big TE premium as you can tell w/ the 2 forced starters too)

QB: Brady, Bradford, Mallett
RB: Doug Martin, Forte, Le'Veon Bell, Ronnie Hillman, DWill, Donald Brown, Latavius Murray, Bilal Powell, Jackie Battle, Mike James
WR: Cruz, Bowe, A Brown, Randle, Golden Tate, Edelman, Jacoby Ford, Zach Rogers, Michael Jenkins
TE: Cook, Fleener, Vance McDonald, Gragg, Kendricks, Taylor Thompson, DJ Williams, Nick Kasa

I obviously tried to go pretty young w/ most things. I think I'm a bit weak at WR depth.

I think this is a good team. Brady should put solid QB1 numbers for a 2-3 more seasons. I like Bradford as a backup, and he could have a breakout season with the additional weapons in Saint Louis. Doug Martin is a great piece in dynasty. I have him ranked as the 2nd best running back behind T-Rich. Bell should put up RB2 numbers, so he will be a great option in the flex spot. Forte has limited upside, but he should put up RB2 numbers. I think Hillman should do well in PPR leagues. I am not a fan of your RB depth after Hillman. I would look to drop Jackie Battle. I think Cruz will put up low-end WR1 numbers and Bowe should put up high-end WR2 stat line. I really like Randle. I think he will become a high-end WR3 next season. I would look to drop Jenkins for a younger wide receiver with more upside. I can see Cook putting up top 10 numbers and hopefully you can get TE2 production with a TEBC. This should be a playoff team.

Thanks for the thoughts!

This is a 12 team 30 roster league. So after round like 24 the pickings get REALLY thin, so basically no one out on waivers

There may be a guy like Spencer Ware or Kenbrell Thompkins on waivers who are worth keeping an eye on.

Another guy that I just thought of is Taverres King. I have him in a couple of leagues already. I think he will win the job be the No 4 WR in Denver this season, so he will be one injury away from being relevant. Also, Eric Decker is a free agent after this season, so King could step into the No 3 spot next year. Ware was moved to fullback, which I did not know, so he is someone to keep an eye on, but I probably would not pick him up.

Wow, I got him in the 26th round in one of my drafts and FA is others. A few other guys that may not have been drafted are...
Aaron Mellette WR BAL

-After Torrey Smith, the Ravens don't have much, so he has a good opportunity.

Ray Graham RB HOU
Cierra Wood RB HOU

-One of those guys should get the No 3 spot in Houston.

Armon Binns WR MIA

-Could be Miami's slot receiver

Patrick Edwards WR DET

-No 4 for Detroit

My personal favorite deep sleeper this year is Jarrett Boykin. 4th string WR for the Packers. One tweaked knee from serious playing time. Rodgers said the kid will have his chances this upcoming season and seams to like Boykin. Boykin is still the all time receiving leader at VT, and has really good spacial awareness and rout running, even if he doesn't have track star speed.

He's worth a 30th round pick, I think.

Anyways, I'm not sold on Brady without any serious pieces around him for now. I like Bradford in the long term, but I don't know if you can rely on those two as starters for your team. It might be worth dealing Brady + some RB surplus for someone like RG3 who you could ride for the next decade.

I like the Edelman pickup. You have some really nice deep sleepers.
