Dynasty Rule Controversy

Postby ScottyWaz9 » Wed Aug 07, 2013 4:25 pm

So we are headed into our second year of our dynasty league and we just finished our free agent auction draft. A lot of people over paid for players last year so this draft was actually filled with players.

A rule we are doing away with after this year is: 5% salary increase on all players with contract years left.
No one liked it, you make the contract and your team has a total year limit of 60 for 25 players, so we won't hold on to players too long.

The problem arose during the draft. People started dropping players with high contracts then rebidding on them and getting them for much cheaper. It was hard for all the other teams to even come close to matching with everyone already near the cap. We need to avoid this dilemma, but we aren't sure how. We don't want to flat out just restrict that from happening, we just want to make some kind of penalty...

Any suggestions?

You could impose a cap hit - depending on the number of years left on the contract and/or the total amount of the contract, if you drop a player, X% is added to your cap as a penalty.

Ditto on the cap hit. We use a flat 50% hit regardless of the years remaining. Having different penalty percentages based on the year can be really taxing on you as the commish if the site you are using doesn't automatically do it. I clear the hits once a year at the start of the NFL regular season so teams can't take advantage of the cap relief until the following season. It has worked out well. I do kind of wish MFL had a feature to adjust %'s based on years remaining.

Say you use the same 50% rule and a guy has a player on his roster for $30. He cuts him and takes a $15 cap hit. Unless he can get that guy for less than $15 it is the same price or more if the bidding goes over $15.
