Should I pick up Julian Edelman? WHIR

Postby GiantsFanSTL » Wed Sep 11, 2013 2:59 pm

I just dropped Ronnie Hillman and added Jordan Cameron, even though I already have Jimmy Graham and Jared Cook. I figured I could use him in a trade if he keeps putting up good numbers. No one has picked up Julian Edelman off of waivers yet. Do you think he's worth a look, with Amendola constantly getting hurt, and Edelman putting up great numbers in Week 1? If so, who do you drop?

I think he's definitely worth a pickup. With Amendola out this week he is going to be the top target for Brady. Torrey Smith may have a tough time against Hayden so you could think about playing Edelman this week. After that, who knows how long until Amendola comes back, and how long before he is hurt again, so Edelman could have a lot of value going forward as well.

I appreciate the advice. Who would you drop for Edelman?

Yes, I would say pick up Edemlan. You could drop Alshon or Cameron. In an 8-team league you really don't need three TE. It's a surprisingly deep position this year, and I doubt you could get much back in a trade (unless you have something specific in mind).

Help with mine: Vincent or Marlon Brown?

The reason I grabbed Cameron is to prevent other teams from grabbing him, and I was going to trade for more depth at running back. I'm leaning towards dropping Alshon Jeffrey for Edelman, my only fear is that Marshall's hip injury bothers him, and Jeffrey becomes a #1 receiver in Chicago, or has a breakout game here soon.

I would feel confident dropping Jeffrey. Last year he was supposed to kind of break out but never really did. In an 8 team league you can drive yourself crazy over thinking things. I like Edelman more than Jeffrey, and if you do too then go for it.

Yeah, you're right, I'm overthinking things. Edelman will have more value in the long run.

Thank you for the advice! That's what I ended up doing, I was overthinking it. Edelman has much more value than Jeffrey in the long run.

I agree. At the very least, he's got a higher ceiling in the Pats system. I used him near the end of last season (before he got hurt) and he was a beast. If I remember correctly, he even played some defense or returned kicks (or both). If you're in an IDP league that can add even more value. Belichick seems to love the guy.
