How do you go about deciding a tie for the playoffs?

If it is a tie in the standings to see who makes the playoffs:

1) Best Head-to-Head record.
2) If the teams are in the same division, best divisional record.
3) Most Points Scored.
4) Coin Flip.
-----------------------------------------------------------
If it is a tie in a playoff game:

The team with the higher playoff seeding advances.

I'm not sure there is a perfect answer. In my 14 team league we play each team once. I have the first tie-breaker as total points scored which helps ensure everyone plays their best team each week. For the second tie breaker I avoided head-to-head as I feel it can be a little unfair since if the one time you play an opponent you have your best players on bye it might not be a true representation of your team. So I went with most bench points scored, thinking that would reward the team with the best overall players on their team. Unfortunately I've realized that it punishes smart teams that might be holding on to an injured player (Vareen) or an emerging player (C Patterson) hoping to get return later on.

So I think in the future I will go, Most Points scored for, then most points scored against.
