Tice on Bennett

Postby 9er Fan » Thu Dec 18, 2003 1:02 pm

After watching Michael Bennett maneuver in practice Wednesday, Vikings coach Mike Tice made it clear: "Michael will start Saturday."

"He is going to be able to go, but how long, I don't know," Tice said. "He's going to go until he can't go. … Hopefully that's four full quarters."

Before ANYONE makes roster decisions based on Tice quotes, I suggest you take a deep breath review some of his earlier musings:

Bennett will get 15-18 carries against Oakland; 5 rushes for 13 yards

Bennett will get 10+ carries against San Diego; 5 rushes for 23

Smith will get 100+ yards against Atlanta; 63 yards, Mo gets 71 and 2 TD's........

Unless you have no other options, I'd stay far away from the Viking runningbacks this week. Any one of the three could get you 20 points, or get you 2.

My RBs to choose (2) from are Portis/Taylor/M. Anderson/Bennett/D. Foster.

Taylor is a lock, and I'm going with either Bennett or Foster this week as my #2. Right now, I'm leaning towards Bennett. If it is announced before the Viking game (Saturday) that Davis is for sure not playing in Carolina, I might substitute Foster for Bennett.

I doubt it though. I have a feeling that Bennett will have a huge game this week. He's kind of like a poor man's Clinton Portis, and could easily break off a long TD against KC.

I think you're making a mistake here 9erfan.
Even when Bennett was healthy and had his break-out, 1296 yd. season last year, he only scored 5 TD's, compared to Moe's 11 TD's. Bennett has a "high ankle sprain", which are notorious RB killers. This just isn't an injury you usually get over in a week. With Onterrio's performance last week, and Moe's performance all year, I think Bennett is a poor play this week. Tice has the tendancy to BS on RB status, and I think he's more hopefull than confident about Bennett.
Oh yeah, go with Foster.
