Raiders add Avezzano for special teams

Alameda, CA (Sports Network) - Three-time NFL special teams coach of the year Joe Avezzano will join the Oakland Raiders in the same capacity under new head coach Norv Turner, the team announced Thursday.

Avezzano was special teams coach for the Dallas Cowboys from 1990-2002, winning three Super Bowls in the process. He and Turner will be reunited in Oakland, as the pair worked together in Dallas from 1991-93, when Turner was the team's offensive coordinator.

Avezzano spent the last two years as head coach of the Arena Football League's Dallas Desperados. The Desperados won the division once and made the postseason both years during Avezzano's tenure.
