It looks like Marty Schottenheimer would like to sign a veteran QB and draft Larry Fitzgerald as the #1 overall pick. The article also suggests that the team may dump David Boston. This is all from the Pro Football Talk Rumor Mill, but they were right about Fassell coming to Baltimore, so...
With the Chargers angling for quarterback Mark Brunell in an effort to win sooner rather than later, the likelihood of San Diego drafting a quarterback with the first overall pick is low.
Though, at first blush, this reinforces the notion that the Chargers hope to trade down. But we're now hearing that coach Marty Schottenheimer wants to use the first overall pick on Pitt receiver Larry Fiztgerald.
Schottenheimer believes, we're told, that Fitzgerald can provide an instant impact, at a time when Schottenheimer desperately needs to improve the team's record in order to keep his job.
We're also hearing stronger indications that the Chargers will part ways with receiver David Boston. His 2003 signing bonus specifically was structured to allow the team to pull the plug after one season, and Boston's behavior last year surely did little to persuade the team to keep him over the long haul.
As we see it, it's possible that the Chargers are merely hoping to cajole a team like the Cardinals into making the move from the three hole to the top of the ladder in order to get Fitzgerald. In 1998, the Chargers sent the farm to Arizona for the right to move up one spot -- where they drafted Ryan Leaf. It could be time for the Chargers to return the favor, forcing the Cardinals to cough up the picks if coach Denny Green intends to nail down the guy whom many believe he covets.

I don't agree with getting rid of Boston. He just needs a good QB.
His numbers were very good when Flutie was in. If the Chargers can get a quality starting QB, they'll have a very dangerous offense with LT and Boston.
theyve got 6.7 mil so itd be tough to fit all those players in on top of all the other positions
but on a more right-out note good WRs usually can do well with bad QBs...brees wasnt any worse than fiedler but chambers did well. another example is the young mccown...hes good but he still has the rookie scent with him, and quan did amazing.
I agree. I think alot of problem in SD was that they just weren't passing all that much, period. They'd run so many times and pass only and 3rd and long. I don't even think Boston finished the season with 70 receptions, and he is the number #1 WR.
well LT got 100 receptions, so they did throw. you also have to realize other things are at work. The offense may not be for boston's playing type, so they didnt get the ball to him much. when a coach make a move like this a lot of the time its something normal people dont realize why they are doing it. this may be one of those situations that he just doesnt fit. Though im not convinced he is that great of a WR anyway...

Of course the opposite is also true... The teams he are on are crappy. He has yet to do for a team what a true great player is supposed to do; make them better. Flutie really energized that team last year and Boston's numbers improved greatly because of it... Boston gets one more year to prove he is truly a gamebreaker or he goes on the pile with the rest of the Ohio St. wide receivers.
