Peyton Manning, Cleveland/Arizona Trade?

Postby Canacuna » Mon Feb 16, 2004 12:30 am

Some news on the Browns and Peyton Manning...

Notes...

.... Policy said in a radio interview this week that the Browns will be major players in free agency.... Colts owner Jim Irsay told the Indianapolis Star at the Pro Bowl that Peyton Manning will get a new deal and will become the highest-paid player in the history of the league....

...And some news on a potential Cleveland and Arizona deal that would involve draft picks, Jamel White, and Tim Couch...

Cleveland and Arizona

Word is the Browns may trade unhappy backup running back Jamel White to Arizona when the NFL trading period begins next month. Browns management recently gave White's reps permission to weigh trade interest from other teams.

When asked to comment on the Cardinals' apparent interest in White, Jesse LeGrande, the player's co-agent, would neither confirm nor deny it.

While it's generally assumed the Browns' main purpose in asking quarterback Tim Couch to restructure his pricey contract is to keep him here, don't dismiss another factor: a new deal would make it much easier to trade Couch.

In addition to White, the Cardinals have also expressed interest in Couch. They need a proven quarterback after dumping veteran Jeff Blake and may not be sold on using their No. 3 overall pick in April's draft on a raw college QB.

If Browns owner Randy Lerner, obsessed with having "continuity" on his team's offense in 2004, vetoes a potential deal that would send Couch and the Browns' overall No. 8 choice to Arizona for its No. 3 pick, he's nuts.

Yeah, Manning is one of the few guys who will stick around with the same team nearly his whole career. I can see maybe when he is on the last legs of his career he might go somewhere else, ala Joe Montana.

When I saw this thread I thought you meant that Peyton may get traded to the Cards or the Browns...thank goodness I was wrong.

That is some good stuff, leave it to 'Cana.

I concur. If he does a Montana maybe he'll play for the Pats so he can be on the east coast in case there is a Boston Tea-bag Party!

All this Jamel White hoopla might be bad news for Marcel Shipp owners. And with this Tim Couch talk, it makes you think that Arizona might not take Roethlisbeger with their 3rd pick.
