Jeff Garcia...

Postby Canacuna » Fri Feb 20, 2004 12:31 am

Talks aimed at cutting Jeff Garcia's $10 million salary have ground to a halt, and the 49ers on Wednesday raised the possibility of releasing their three-time Pro Bowl quarterback if the impasse isn't resolved by March 3, the start of the new league year.

49ers Broach Releasing Garcia

I'd like to seem him go elsewhere. If the 49ers are rebuilding the rest of the offense, why not have a new QB too? Tim Rattay looked pretty good in the few games I've seen him play, but I'd like to see what he's capable of for an entire season.

It's a two team race in the NFC West.

Screw the 9ers. Let 'em suffer.

I agree, Rattay seems like he has that talent to fufill that 49er quarterback legacy. Personally, Garcia is one of my favorite players on the field; He's quick and athletic. Nevertheless, from what I've heard he's caused alot of trouble and distraction for his team. Has anybody read anything about Terrel Owens leaving San Fran? If Garcia and Owens leave, they might have an offense the revolves more around...well...Rattay?

And thus begins the Rattay/Streets era...

Not to get too far off the original subject, but would/will Streets become the primary receiver or will SF look to the draft/FAs to get a #1 WR?

I doubt Garcia will be out of SF next year, but he was outperformed by Rattay in his limited action. Streets will probably not be with SF next year.

Wilson and Lloyd will probably be the starters with Battle pushing them for playing time.

I wonder if there's any chance of retaining Owens if they ship Garcia out of town? A guy can dream can't he?

I can not think of many team that would picked up Jeff Garcia and use him as a starter. A lot of teams would like him as a backup.

Starter for these possible teams?

Dallas-battle with Quincy?
Pittsburgh-battle against Maddox?
Arizona-battle with McNown?
Buffalo-replace Bledsoe?
Lions-back with Mooch and battle with Harrington?
Dolphins-battle with Fiedler?
Raiders-they like ex-49ers?
San Diego-take over for Brees and then they draft Fitzgerald or trade down?

this will be very interesting to watch.

Any team with a young prospect at QB only would gain to lose signing a 34 year old Garcia.

McCown, Harrington? No way.

This reeks of Brunell part 2.
