Duce Staley Update...

Postby Canacuna » Sun Feb 22, 2004 9:15 pm

Teams expected to show interest in Staley include Tampa Bay, Washington, Detroit, Dallas, Pittsburgh and maybe Chicago and the Giants.

Tampa head coach Jon Gruden has never hid his feelings for Staley, who he knows from their days together with the Eagles. He also needs a reliable back.

Staley also fits the kind of offense Joe Gibbs likes to run in Washington, but the Redskins can't sign everyone.

Detroit and Chicago were involved in trade talks when Staley held out of camp last summer, and the Lions could still be players, if they don't use their first-round pick on a back.

Dallas has been rumored since before the season ended, but Bill Parcells might want to draft his running back.

There is one rumor making the rounds that new Giants head coach Tom Coughlin plans to release Tiki Barber to send a message to his team and go after Staley. It might just be a rumor.

Pittsburgh needs a back. Jerome Bettis is through and Amos Zeroue isn't good enough.

It could come down to Tampa Bay or the Steelers.

Detroit would be a perfect fit for staley. I'd like to see Harrington get a half ass decent RB.

I agree. In a perfect world, it would happen.

3rd down back

Postby stonecoldbev » Mon Feb 23, 2004 8:08 am

Duce Staley is nothing more than a glorified third down back. He has his moments, but he's not a 25-carry-a-game franchise back. And releasing Tiki? That just proves what a complete idiot Coughlin is. Yes, Tiki fumbles, but he also makes big plays and can score any time he touches the ball. Coughlin's drill sergeant B.S. doesn't fly with pampered millionaires. He'd be best served to go back to college with that routine.

stone cold, you are stone cold wrong. some accuse me of bias here, but the reality is that when staley has been an every down back, his numbers have been very good. He has had a committe and injsuries for part of his career. but when looking at hsi seasons as a feature back, you can't deny his ability. his combine yardage in thsoe seasons was fantastic. heck even this year he posted pretty good combined stats.
