New York, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Jets are expected to part ways with quarterback Vinny Testaverde, according to a published report.
The New York Daily News, citing an NFL source, reported Thursday that the club will not bring the veteran back for another season. According to the newspaper, the Jets are preparing to unload several veterans with the free- agency signing period beginning next week,
Testaverde led the Jets to the AFC Championship Game in 1998, but ruptured an Achilles tendon in the first game of the 1999 season. He led the Jets to the playoffs in 2001 before losing his starting job to Chad Pennington in 2002.
He replaced an injured Pennington last season and completed 123-of-198 passes with seven touchdowns.
For salary cap reasons, the move to release Testaverde won't become official until after June 1. The announcement, however, could come Friday.
