49'ers Sign (Ahmed) Plummer

Postby 9er Fan » Fri Mar 05, 2004 5:37 pm

As a 49'er fan, this is huge. He was expected by most to get signed away by another team, which would have left SF seriously weak at CB.

SF lost a lot on offense this year (obviously), but their promising young defense is pretty much in tact with the Plummer signing. Now they can go get Reggie Williams with their 1st round pick (or maybe a D-Lineman).

'Bout time the 49ers weren't in the news for losing one of their key players.

Great signing by San Fran, I figured Plummer was all but gone. Keeps a rising defense mostly intact as the offensive rebuilding experiment begins. ;-D

Now if the 49ers defense can stay off the field for 15 minutes a game, that might be a successful year for them. If you combined the 49ers with the Cardinals, they'd actually have a complete team. Actually no, they both need kickers...

Defense is going to have to win some games for San Fran this year. Hopefully the "Dumpf and Dummer" duo (pet name for Rumph and Plummer) can improve as cover guys this year. We are going to need all the help we can get!

10. I think it's a measure of the insanity of the times when the 49ers can pay a decent corner -- Ahmed Plummer, a guy two of his former coaches (Steve Mariucci and Jim Mora) did not pursue -- $35 million and Terry Donahue says: "We are so relieved to get him done. That's a great signing for us."

I'd rather have Plummer with an 11 mil signing bonus than Webster at 7 mil (which is what Mora/Atlanta paid him).
