East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - The New York Giants on Monday continued to strengthen their defense with the signing of linebacker Barrett Green. As per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.
Green started all 16 games last season for the lowly Detroit Lions, recording 117 tackles, three sacks and two fumble recoveries.
New York already bolstered its defense with the acquisitions of linebacker Carlos Emmons from Philadelphia and defensive tackle Fred Robbins of Minnesota.
"Coach (Tom) Coughlin is one of the main reasons I decided to play for the Giants," Green said. "He is going to install a program that emphasizes discipline and hard work, and that's what you need to be successful in the National Football League."
Green's father, Joe, played strong safety for the Giants from 1970-71.
Coughlin signed a four-year contract with New York in January.
