It looks like a good situation for A.J.; obviously, he has to win the job, and Boston must stop with the head case syndrome and begin to fulfill his promise. If this happens, Miami will have one of the best 1-2 WR tandems in the league. On the flip side, I thought Boston would really light it up in SD as a compliment to LT, and look where that went. Wannestadt"s penchant for playing musical QB is a concern, too.
If today were D-Day, I'd be targeting Feeley as a#3 QB or utility player for my team, but no higher than that.
However, saying they missed the playoffs by 1 game in 2002 and 2003 is a much bigger deal than you make of it. You have to remember that this is a team that had made the playoffs like 10 straight years, and has a top 5 defense and a top 5 running back, there's not many other places to look...
Also, Fiedler is a good, head in the game type QB when he's in there. He's not gonna make plays superstar plays, but he sees the field well and can get the ball to the open receiver.
But, your point of "dolphin fans wanting him back when he's hurt" is again something that you're devaluing. When was the last time Fiedler played a season WITHOUT missing a large number of games due to injury? I can't think of one. He's very injury prone, then we struggle, then he comes back too soon and plays hurt and does more harm than good. I mean, in that game against Buffalo with the broken thumb, and Tampa with the seperated shoulder, both in crunch time, he looked like Kurt Warner of last year, some of the worst ducks I've ever seen.
As a dolphin fan, I like Fiedler as our starting QB when he's healthy. My problem with him is that he's never healthy. It's past the point of coincidence, he's hurt every year. We need a guy that can play well for the full duration of the season, because when we sacrifice 4-6 games due to Fiedler either not playing or playing hurt, then miss the playoffs by 1 game, it tells me that we need another capable starter.

"top 5 defense" means relatively nothing to me. That's just what it says on paper. Dallas had the #1 defense and it got them nowhere in the playoffs last year. Not many other places to look, but Fiedler isn't the worst of the problems. Personally I'd look at your HC, I think he's the weak link. Their defense is also suspect on the road.

He didn't miss any games in 2000 and 2001, coincidently the last 2 years you made the playoffs. So when he plays every game, they make the playoffs, if he misses time they don't. It would seem to me that he is integral to their playoff success.
He missed 1 or 2 games in 2000, but less than the other 4 years by far.
In 2001, "technically" his games played stat reads 16, but that's misleading. He had a seperated shoulder and played some in a number of games, so it counts toward the games played stat. When he was in, you could tell he had a seperated shoulder, as he threw awful.
Bottom line is that he can't stay healthy, and for that reason I'd much rather have another starting quality QB on the roster for those sure times that Fiedler misses. And, if it comes down to it due to cap issues, I wouldn't necessarily be against grabbing a new QB who could actually stay in the game.
