Hempstead, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Jets have signed free-agent safety Reggie Tongue to an undisclosed contract.
Tongue spent the past four seasons with the Seattle Seahawks after playing the first four years of his NFL career with Kansas City.
Last year, the Oregon State product recorded 63 tackles, four interceptions and two sacks for the Seahawks. He has 14 interceptions in 155 games during his NFL career.
"Reggie was one of the players we targeted at the strong safety position," said Jets head coach Herman Edwards. "He adds toughness and leadership to our defense, and has proven to be a productive and durable player."
The Jets also had talks with veteran safety John Lynch, who was released by Tampa Bay earlier this month and signed with Denver on Monday.
New York also signed restricted free agent linebacker Quincy Stewart, as well as exclusive rights free agent wide receivers Lawrence Hamilton and Ken-Yon Rambo, safety Omare Lowe and linebacker Mark Brown. The club also inked defensive lineman/long snapper Randy Chevrier.
