nudity on tv...

does anyone know the whole FCC rules?

explain to me why its ok to have nudity such as in fashion shows you see on tv where the models are wearing see-thru clothing...

and then the janet jackson thing drew so much heat when you couldnt even see anything...

would it be ok if NFL cheerleaders wore see-thru attire and they showed it on TV?...if so...WOOHOO!

You've got your shows like NYPD Blue that shows backsides all the time, but they're on after 10 PM. That's when kids are mostly in bed so they can't see it. I think that's the main thing with Network nudity. The Super Bowl nudity was on early prime time and it was being watch by bazillions of people and a ton of kids. I don't think the FCC liked that.

I agree with you on the cheerleaders though. Lingerie Bowl on CBS next year!

HBO shows nude stuff...but "basic" cable is forbidden. I agree they should lighten up a bit, i mean theyve got all the warnings

lol i was in england about three years ago, you'd flip from channel to channel and there were naked girls running around, commercials for soap didnt stop at the bellybuttonor the neck... good stuff

I think it depends on Network as to what the will and wont allow. and HBO, i think they pay the FCC money just so they can show nudity (i may be wrong here) and.......

if you ask me it is a double standard, everyone gets up in arms when the whole super bowl thing happened and then everyday there are soup operas and all that crap and no one ever says anything about that now do they...

i dont think that the time the show is broadcasted has anything to do with it...

those fashion shows are sometimes on during saturday morning where the kids are watching their saturday cartoons...

it just weird...

Funny, we can see beatings, stabbings, shootings and various other forms of disturbing violence on network TV, but a nipple, holy mother of God... Shut 'em down!
Weird, I wonder why America is the most violent, and sexually repressed Western society? Chicken and the egg thing, I guess.

The FCC seems have little or no control over regulation of decency 'standards' on cable. Over the air 'broadcast' is where they are empowered to regulate decency standards. It looks as though the FCC has no jurisdiction, whatsoever, to impose programming regulations on cable channels. That doesn't mean they aren't trying.

As far as broadcast channels, there is a distinction between obscene and indecent. Obscene is prohited at all times, while indecent is prohibited between 10PM and 6AM.
