ProFootballTalk.com wrote:He's not "back in the game" in the Mike Ditka sense, as far as we know and care to know. But former Bengals and Packers quarterback Akili Smith is trying to get back into the game of pro football.
NFLdraftscout.com reports that Smith recently had a private workout with the Raiders. Of 40 passes thrown, 36 were on target.
Smith has been training with former NFL quarterback Jay Schroeder, who is trying to get Smith ready for another shot at stardom. Smith was drafted by the Bengals as the third overall pick, behind Tim Couch and Donovan McNabb and before guys like Edgerring James, Ricky Williams, Champ Bailey, Torry Holt, and Daunte Culpepper. Smith languished on the bench for four seasons, and he was cut by the Packers during training camp last year.
