Umm, Larry Johnson?
Yes, but in that instance you had a RB who was hitting 30, so he doesn't have many years left (Westbrook is only 2 years into the league). Priest was coming off a hip injury, and no one knew if he'd make it back to form. Westbrook has durability questions, but no injuries that look to hamper his running abilities. So, drafting Larry Johnson was planning for 1-3 years down the road. The Eagles going for Jackson would be not trusting Westbrook to last a full season, which considering that he hasn't had the feature role yet is an unfair and hasty decision.

Or considering he missed significant time with only 120 carries, prudent and well thought out.
He missed a few games during the season (2-3). However, 120 carries was a significant load, considering he split time virtually equally with Duce and Buckhalter.
If RB had been a concern for the eagles going into the off-season, I think they would've just resigned duce for a few more years (not like they don't have the cap room). Giving up a starting Gaurd to move up 10 spots in the draft in order to get a running back when you already have 2 good ones. that's just a bit ridiculous.

When I hear "feature back", I think of a guy who carries 300 a season. I doubt that Westbrook is built for that kind of punishment.

They didn't draft Johnson because they were worried about Priest getting hurt, it was a completely different situation. They drafted Johnson because Priest was holding out and to put pressure on him to get a deal done for less than he was asking.
Not to mention that even if they HAD drafted him because Priest was hurt, Priest was already hurt BEFOREHAND and there were mumblings that it was career-ending. Again, completely different.

You're right, drafting Johnson had nothing to do with Priest's injury.

well duce is aging and wanted a feature role, which is why the eagles didn't sign him. Signing him would have meant dedicating the job to him AND paying money. neither of those options were that good.
