Lions | Talk About RBs - from http://www.KFFL.com
Thu, 22 Apr 2004 21:04:52 -0700

Detroit Lions head coach Steve Mariucci would like to add another running back to the Lions' roster through the draft, but the physical status of his current crop of backs may help dictate how early the team looks to draft at the position, reports DetroitLions.com. "We'd like to add to the group, I suppose," Mariucci said. "Then you have Artose Pinner who's running around like crazy right now. He's done a heck of a job in our offseason program, and Shawn Bryson who's much healthier than he was a year ago. The health of our running back group is much better that it was."

What are your thoughts on this? Do the Lions need another RB like the need another hole in the head? Does Mooch just not have much confidence in his current RB corps?

Everything I've read about Mariucci's thoughts on Pinner are favorable. It seems that he is really high on the kid and believes he could be their guy when he's healthy. If that's the case, I think they should concentrate on other positions right now and give Pinner a chance to be the main back with Bryson/Gary/Cobourne playing the support role.

On a side note, I'm a little surprised they haven't done more to develop Cobourne. I don't know a lot about him personally, though, other than the fact that he was awesome in college.

I dont think their first choice should be a RB, but im guessing mooch is thinking of using a later pick in hopes of snagging a bargain...didnt Emmitt go in rnd 3? :-)

It was Denver (that signed Hearst). Detroit was in the running but backed out.
