Tips for a first time dynasty league drafter

Postby jojo » Sat May 01, 2004 6:28 pm

Any tips, this will be my first dynasty league draft. How much weight should you put on a player's age? For example, how far would guys like Priest and Faulk fall in your rankings?

Priest just goes from #1 to #3 in my book, falling below LT and Portis. Faulk, on the other hand, drops several spots. I have him pegged around #10 for this season, but for dynasty i'd probably drop him nearer to #15

basically look at your cheat sheets and treat older players a little unfavorably and younger ones with a little more favor. but if that will confuse ya. forget it , look at your league scoring options and get a good drafting plan for this year. most likely your carry over wont drop you too bad.

Get a nice mix of proven veterans and younger guys with potential on your team. Don't totally discount a player just because he will only play another few years - you want to build to be competitive now and in the future.

Pretend your league will end in 5 years.

Go from there.

In my dynasty league I treated it like any other league....since i never want to sacrifice the prsent for the future

but like others have said bump a guy like Faulk down a bit.....but in my dynasty league I have a very veteran core, but i drafted wisely and my bench's average age is 23 I think, so there are always multiple ways to go about it.

Dynasty leagues are so much more rewarding, never having to build a team just to see it evaporate from season to season.

I put Priest at #2 in dynasty or keeper. He's got a backup with solid potential, and he's got at least 2 more years, if not 3 in him. Given that he's the best ff RB, its impossible to pass on him for anyone but LT2.

Portis, could've been #2, but the change of teams is a worry. Tougher run defenses in the NFC east, and Denver has about the best run blocking o-line, so he won't necessarily put up as good of numbers as before.
