Yeah, on other teams, Montana or Lott could be the guy, but here it's gotta be Rice.

Though anyone who has part of their finger cut off to keep playing makes me think really hard about this choice.

As most of you know I am the biggest Rice praiser here...I can't say enough of great things about him..the man has done it all at WR..

BUT (and yes this is a big BUT) he is NOT, sorry I got to stress it, the man who turned this franchise around and brought them to the level that made them a dynasty...

That man is Joe Montana...4 SB wins....3 time SB MVP...the man who threw the ball.... in the most famous play, that you can acutally pinpoint the turn around of this franchise..in what is simpley deemed "The Catch"....

This is the man the franchise was built on, and this is the man who is the best player for that franchise...

As any true Niner Fan will tell you, the Franchise's best ever player is none other than Joe Montana. Rice may be the most storied WR of all time, but there is no doubt in my mind that Montana is the best player of all time.

Didn't you know? They named a freaking town in Montana Joe after him. Ask Joe, Montana residents who the best Niner was.

Tough call. I went back and forth on this one a couple times. In the end, I had to go with Rice. You can easily make a strong argument for either player (Montana/Rice), but IMO Rice is the best football player ever to step on the field.

Amen to that. Joe put the niners on the map. He's where it all began.

Sidebar, how could they leave OJ off the list?
