Advice for adding a new team to a keeper league

Postby nola_saint » Sun Jun 20, 2004 12:56 pm

I run a small 8 team league that allows 2 players to be kept from last year's roster. We lost a team and are adding an 8th this year. How do we allow the new team to "keep" 2 players? Do we let the owner pick from the team's roster that left? or do we have a supplemental draft and give the new team the first 2 picks in addition to the regular draft (10 rounds)? What is the most fair solution for all teams?

I run a 10 team league. Last year was our first year of operation and we had 8 great owners. We have kicked the other owners out and recruited new owners to take over their teams. They just inherited the team the other owners lost. No supplemental draft. We thought this was definately the best way to go. The only time we will have a supplemental draft is when we decide to get more teams in to the league. Not when another owner is coming in to take over an already existing team.
So they weren't the best...and may have ended the worst. SO WHAT!

That seems reasonable to me. Did those owners have any problem with taking over someone else's team?

Well they didn't really like the teams they inherited but they were excited about trying to make the teams better through trades and such. And there wasn't any complaining and wanting to get extra picks or anything. It's actually been a very smooth transition.

Depends on the quality of players on the abandoned team and how much if any money is involved. You're going to have a hard time finding a new owner if the money required is substantial and the team he takes over sucks.

There is some decent quality there and some bad, off the top of my head he had Gannon, Porter, F. Taylor, M. Faulk, Favre and I believe Harrison. So there is definitely 2 decent keepersfrom that group in Harrison and Faulk/Taylor. I think he had Shockey too.

yea, just take over the old team and go as if there was no change. He keeps 2 from that team that he inheited and then fully take over. he shuold not colplain becasue he is taking over a team that someone quit with whcih would hint that the team isnt very good and in need of a good owner.

Yeah, I believe they should just take the team over. They may not be happy w/ who they have, but most likely they will have a high pick in the draft if the previous owners weren't so great.

You only keep 2, so there will still be some good talent out there
