Classifieds are the best way if you are looking to be a part of a keeper with people from all over. However, be warned that it's tough to run a keeper league when other owners can "dump" their teams when they become disgruntled. Not knowing the owners personally makes it hard to judge if they'll stay committed to the league all season in spite of adversity or injury.
I would try to drum up interest in your area for a fantasy league. There's nothing better then getting 10 to 12 guys together for a live, in-person draft day.
Plus, this really opens options. Want to add some spice to the draft order selection? Try a Madden 2005 tournament, where the winner selects where he'd like to draft, and so on. Want to try an alternate draft (instead of normal serpentine model)? Try an auction. All of this is enhanced if you can get a league of locals together.
Good luck!
